Seabag

Updated: Jun 13, 2022

We gather our things to visit the sea. Towels and drinks and snacks and books to fascinate and soothe our minds. And often, all of it remains in the bag because when we arrive at the shore where the spiritual world overlaps the material world, we find enough peace and satisfaction to distract us from all we could carry.

We don’t walk to the edge of the ocean to see the waves and we don’t go to see the sky; we go there to liberate ourselves from the sea of lies that fill the void of our every day lives.

We seek the edge of the earth where the shore meets the sky where we can look into the vast infinity of the universe and maybe get a glimpse of ourselves.

And maybe if we’re courageous and honest, we’ll look long enough into our souls to find real meaning and purpose in this material world and realize it never lied within us. Not in our comfort or in our desire to accumulate but in our struggle to improve ourselves and the comfort of others. If only to remind us that we’re not alone in the vast expanse of God’s unbridled imagination.

And if we’re lucky, we come to the realization that we don’t need to stand in the sand with the tide crashing at our feet to know this; it just makes it easier if we do so. And while it’s true that the seaside is a beautiful place to see this, we can take that serenity with unto as long as we allow ourselves. Forgive ourselves. Accept ourselves just as we are.
